The Beech Hill redevelopment project has been shortlisted for the Inside Housing Development Awards. As part of the redevelopment of the site, three derelict tower blocks, a depot and nine garages are being replaced with 106 new two, three, four, and five-bedroomed homes.

The first 20 homes were recently completed, with work to refurbish 70 homes on the existing estate with new insulation, roofing, solar panels, windows and doors also coming to an end.

Residents have already begun moving into their homes on the new development. Anna was living locally, but the place was in a poor condition, and she needed a second bedroom for her young daughter. “I didn’t believe it,” Anna said when her bid for one of Together Housing’s new homes was successful, “I was speechless!”

Anna continued: “It’s a brilliant home, we love it here. I just fell in love with the house when we saw it and we have a garden too which is nice for my daughter.”

George Paterson, Executive Director of Property at Together Housing Group said: “We’re thrilled that our ground-breaking project is being recognised at a national awards ceremony. To be shortlisted for such a prestigious award is incredible and shows that the development and its impact on the wider area, is being recognised at a national level.

“Beech Hill will offer fantastic homes to residents in Halifax and we’re very proud of the work we’ve achieved so far. Despite some of the challenges we’ve faced, we know from speaking to some residents who have moved in, what a difference the new homes have made to their lives and for the Halifax community.”

Cllr Scott Patient, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Active Travel and Housing, added: “Hot on the heels of the win at the Insider Yorkshire Property Industry Awards 2022, it’s brilliant to see further national recognition for the Beech Hill transformation project in the Inside Housing Development Awards shortlist. It’s thanks to the great partnership work alongside the local community.

“As a crucial part of the wider regeneration of Calderdale and our ambitions for the people who live here, the Beech Hill redevelopment is contributing to our priorities for thriving towns and places, reduced inequalities and climate action.”

The prestigious awards ceremony offers an opportunity to celebrate the very best residential developments across the UK over the past year. Judges will announce their winners at the awards ceremony on Friday 29 September.

Chris Hale Pre Construction Director for Esh Construction said: “The Beech Hill development represents real change for the community and partnership working at its very best. As a local contractor, we have maximised the benefits of our local supply chain by re-investing more than £8.1 million into the Yorkshire region to date throughout the scheme. While this site has presented a number of challenges, we are proud to reach this key milestone and hand over 20 new homes for local people to start their next chapter.

“The scheme was named Large Residential Development of the Year at the Insider Yorkshire Property Industry Awards 2022 owing to the challenges that have been overcome from the outset and becoming a benchmark for other Yorkshire organisations dealing with difficult sites.
